In addition to serving as a key member of our medical staff, Dr. Funt was the former Director of Resident Teaching at SUNY Stony Brook for several years. Dr. Funt received his doctorate degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in 1973. He has held multiple teaching positions throughout his career, coupled with his 30 years of experience in obstetrics and gynecology, his vast knowledge is second-to-none. Dr. Funt has presented in over thirty OB/GYN lectures across the country, including lectures at Yale and Stamford. Dr. Funt's field of expertise is in menopause and its symptoms, and urogynecology.
Dr. O'Keefe completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital at Stony Brook where he was awarded the prestigious "Most Outstanding Resident Award". He is a fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is among the first in the United States to be recertified by the American Board of OB-GYN Dr. O'Keefe has over 20 years in private practice, caring for high risk obstetric patients and performing many major and minor gynecologic procedures. He has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery and is a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Dr. O'Keefe is an assistant Clinical Professor in the medical school at Stony Brook and is active in training young physicians.
Upon graduating with his medical degree from the University of Washington in 1978, Dr. Porte came to SUNY Stony Brook for his residency in obstetrics and gynecology where he earned the Resident of the Year Award in both 1984 and 1986. He has remained in the Stony Brook healthcare system ever since, including a two-year stint as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Stony Brook's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Porte brings over 25 years of experience to our staff. His expertise in the field is an essential part of the experience we provide at Stony Brook GYN/OB.
Dr. Welischar is an experienced member of the medical staff at Stony Brook GYN/OB. She has been a part of the Stony Brook University system right out of high school, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors with her Bachelor of Science in Biology. With the exception of one year performing a residency at New York Medical College, Dr. Welischar has been a mainstay in Stony Brook healthcare schools and medical facilities her entire medical career, and remains an integral part of Stony Brook GYN/OB. As a result, she has developed long-standing, friendly relationships with her patients, ensuring that patients are as comfortable as possible. Dr. Welischar's fields of expertise includes laparoscopic hysterectomy, surgery, the treatment of stress incontinence and adolescent gynecology.
Dr. Lochner is the newest addition to our staff, joining our team for the opening of our brand new Sayville office. Dr. Lochner received her medical degree from the School of Medicine at the State University of Stony Brook, where she completed residency in 2007. She is Board Certified and has received numerous awards in her field including the Golden Scalpel Award in 2006 and 2007. Dr. Lochner's field of expertise includes adolescent gynecology and laparoscopic surgery.
Susan T. Fish is our highly valued, Board Certified nurse practitioner. She has obtained a Master of Science degree as a women's health nurse practitioner/clinical nurse specialist from Stony Brook University. She has been part of our medical staff for over 20 years. Her extensive experience and helpful, caring demeanor has made her an invaluable part of our practice.
